Der F.C. Red Star Zürich hat Tradition
Im Jahre 1905 gründeten Charles Seiler und Alfred Merk, zwei fussballbegeisterte Turner des katholischen Jünglingsvereins linkes Seeufer, den Fussballclub Red Star.
Die Idee zum Namen fanden sie in einem Zeitungsartikel jener Zeit, der über die Dampfschifffahrtslinie «Red Star Line» berichtete. «Tschuuttet» wurde damals auf der Rotwandwiese, wo heute das Bezirksgebäude steht, und als Torstangen dienten zwei Birnbäume.
